The Houston Airport System (HAS) handled 52.2 million passengers in the 12 months ending August ’22. While a substantial improvement over last year, passenger traffic is still below pre-pandemic levels. Domestic traffic is tracking 4.5 to 5.0 million passengers below pre-pandemic ’19 levels, international traffic 2.0 to 2.5 million passengers below. That said, overall traffic is up 44.5 percent compared to last year. Domestic traffic is up 39.8 percent and international is up 69.6 percent.

Air cargo has a better story to tell. HAS handled well over half a million metric tons of cargo (excluding mail) in the 12 months ending August ’22. That’s a substantial improvement over this time last year and above pre-pandemic levels. In the 12 months ending August ’22, HAS handled 561,490 metric tons, nearly 56,000 tons above the 505,610 tons handled over the 12 months ending August ’19.
